General Medicine at the Private Practice
General medicine encompasses primary care (family doctor) for all patients with physical and mental health issues in acute and long-term care, as well as prevention (check-ups, Vitamin D3) and rehabilitation (treatment following hospital stays).
The former designation "general practitioner" has been replaced in Germany by the specialist title "Physician for General Medicine," which includes significantly more extensive training and a specialist examination.
As a general practitioner, I specialize in being your first medical contact for all health concerns.
Holistic Integrative General Medicine
For me, the focus is on the whole person, not just their symptoms and complaints. I am interested in the causes of an illness, e.g., what "sits on someone's neck" with back pain or what someone "carries around with them."
Together with my patients, I seek out the factors causing illness, e.g., at work or in the family, and we develop solutions together that not only alleviate symptoms in the short term but lead to long-term health.
Integrative medicine combines conventional medicine with alternative approaches. One does not exclude the other.
Diagnostic and therapeutic options are expanded and coexist. For example, MRI and leech therapy, lab tests and acupuncture, conversations and cupping therapy.
Tasks of General Medicine
An important task of general medicine is recognizing potentially dangerous developments that can be prevented and organizing further diagnostics and treatment, e.g., referral to specialists or hospital admission.
Another focus is the treatment of chronically ill individuals.
In family medicine, often dealing with challenging family situations and resulting psychosocial conflicts, I am frequently the first point of contact as a family doctor.
Goals of General Medicine
General practitioners aim to consider the physical, mental, social, and ecological aspects of their patients. I pursue a holistic, integrative therapeutic approach, focusing on the whole person, not just their current complaints.
The foundation of general medicine is a long-term patient-doctor relationship.
Prevention and Vitamin D
Prevention is a key aspect, e.g., regularly monitoring Vitamin D levels and supplementing with Vitamin K2 and magnesium in case of deficiency.
In Central Europe, almost everyone experiences a Vitamin D deficiency in winter, as Vitamin D can only be produced by the skin through sun exposure in summer.
Vitamin D is essential for the immune system, mood, and bones, and maintaining levels in the upper normal range aids in cancer prevention. With adequate Vitamin D levels, there are significantly fewer winter depressions, and elderly people who fall experience far fewer fractures.
