Holistic Integrative Treatment Approach

Treatment Table

In my private practice, I offer a holistic integrative treatment approach with ample time for medical history (including Traditional Chinese Medicine, TCM), examination, and therapy!

A holistic treatment approach means that the whole person, with all their aspects and interconnections, is at the center, not just their symptoms and complaints. Merely addressing symptoms does not resolve the underlying cause of the issues.

An integrative treatment approach means that conventional and complementary therapies can be applied in a complementary manner.

There is a dedicated page for the topics of acupuncture, TCM, moxibustion (moxa), and cupping therapy.

Vitamin D Therapy

Supplementation of vitamin D3, combined with vitamin K2 and magnesium, for vitamin D deficiency.

Psychosomatics

Psychosomatics deals with the interactions between the mind (psyche) and body (soma). Psycho-neuro-immunology studies the measurable effects of psychological factors in our body, e.g., the release of adrenaline and cortisol. MRI scans can show that emotional pain activates the same brain areas as physical pain.

Almost all illnesses have a psychological component. "Something hits you in the stomach," e.g., chronic stress at work or in relationships, or anxiety before an exam, which can lead to stomach pain, gastritis, or even a stomach ulcer.

"Something’s on your neck," e.g., a demanding boss, annoying colleagues, or family members, which can cause pain in the cervical spine, tension, or torticollis.

Even in an accident, one might ask whether their thoughts were elsewhere at the time.

Fear is part of life’s design to protect us from real dangers, triggering the release of neurotransmitters that, in our ancestors, enabled them to flee or fight when faced with a saber-toothed tiger. Afterward, the body would immediately switch to relaxation mode.

Today, when people experience constant fear or stress, the body runs at full throttle continuously, which, sooner or later, leads to illness.

I work with my patients to identify the causes of their conditions and find ways to reduce stress and burdens.

In chronic pain conditions, such as complex regional pain syndrome, there is often significant emotional trauma, e.g., from abuse, causing profound emotional pain. Processing the trauma, e.g., with trauma therapy, EMDR, or hypnosis, can positively influence the pain condition.

Pain Therapy

Pain therapy addresses acute and chronic pain. The most common pains are those of the musculoskeletal system (orthopedic pain).

First, the somatic (physical) causes of pain are investigated, e.g., through blood tests, X-rays, MRI, or gastroscopy. Pain treatment can involve analgesics in the form of tablets, injections, or infusions, as well as neural therapy.

Further treatment options include acupuncture, physio tapes, or leech therapy.

For musculoskeletal pain, I often prescribe physiotherapy, manual therapy, osteopathy, heat therapy, or massage.

For all pain, especially chronic pain, in addition to searching for physical causes, I also explore additional stressors such as chronic stress, worries, problems, and past traumas.

During my acupuncture training, I focused on pain therapy and psychosomatics.

Kinesiology Tapes | Physio Tapes (Taping)

Kinesiology Tapes or Physio Tapes , these colorful adhesive strips are likely familiar from professional sports. They are often seen at football World Cups or the Olympics.

Non-athletes also benefit from them. The tapes provide support and promote lymphatic drainage, leading to faster absorption of bruises and fluid accumulations, e.g., a knee effusion, and pain-causing substances in the tissue are transported away more quickly.

The tapes are applied to the skin and remain for several days; you can shower with them. They are made of hypoallergenic material, and allergies are very rare.

Physio Tapes for the treatment of
  • acute injuries
  • chronic conditions
Medi-Taping®

In my practice, I use the Medi-Tape® concept developed by Dr. Dieter Sielmann from Schmerz und Tape GmbH.

On their website, Schmerz und Tape GmbH offers extensive information about kinesiology tapes.

For example:

  • What a tape is and for which complaints it can be used.
  • What makes the tape so special, and how does it differ from conventional bandages?
  • What can one expect from tape therapy?
  • And much more.

Note: According to current legislation, I am obliged to point out that kinesiology tapes are not scientifically/medically recognized/proven methods, and thus their effectiveness is not scientifically/medically proven.

Statements about kinesiology tapes are based on my years of experience.

Joint Injections

Joint injections, for example:

  • Knee joints
  • Hip joints
  • Facet joints of the spine

For example, with:

  • Hyaluronic acid
  • Homeopathic medications
  • Analgesics

In cases of knee joint wear (osteoarthritis), the cartilage layer that produces synovial fluid diminishes, resulting in a lack of joint lubrication. This can be compensated with hyaluronic acid injections into the knee.

For spinal pain, homeopathic medications or local anesthetics can be injected subcutaneously (wheal technique) or local anesthetics or cortisone into the facet joints.

Therapy for Acute Pain

Analgesics can be administered as infusions, intramuscular injections, or subcutaneously (wheal technique).

Medical Leeches | Leech Therapy

Leech Therapy

Therapy with medical leeches is a very ancient therapy. Recent studies confirm its effectiveness.

In my practice, I have also achieved good results in treating tennis elbow and Achilles tendon pain (Achilles tendinopathy).

The medical leeches I use are sourced from Biebertaler Blutegelzucht GmbH, which provides extensive information on the topic on their website.

Effectiveness of Leech Therapy for Chronic Lower Back Pain

Conclusion: A single leech treatment is effective in the short term compared to exercise therapy in reducing pain intensity and in the medium term in improving function and quality of life (4 and 8 weeks, respectively). Limitations of the study include the lack of blinding and the relatively small number of patients. Leech therapy appears to be an effective method for treating chronic lower back pain.

Following studies on various forms of osteoarthritis, leeches were used for the first time in a study on patients with chronic lower back pain in the lumbar region – with success.

Assessment: Compared to guideline-based standard therapy, a single use of leeches achieved sustained significant effects in terms of pain reduction, functional improvement, and enhancement of physical quality of life. Both the absolute pain improvement of nearly 50% and the absolute group difference in pain reduction of more than 20 mm VAS indicate a clinically relevant therapeutic effect. ...

Treatment of Knee Osteoarthritis with Hirudo medicinalis (medical leech): How does the therapy affect pain perception and mechanical touch threshold?

Pain and Function: After leech therapy, two of the three WOMAC indices (pain and daily activity) as well as the global index showed significant improvement, while stiffness showed non-significant improvement. ...

Neural Therapy

Neural therapy is used for pain conditions such as migraines, lower back pain, or knee complaints.

Pain-relieving agents (local anesthetics, e.g., procaine) are injected into so-called interference fields (e.g., scars) or directly into the painful area.

Gut Restoration

Many people have an imbalance of good and bad bacteria, viruses, and fungi in their gut. This leads to, e.g., digestive problems, diarrhea, and irritable bowel syndrome.

The goal of gut restoration is to rebalance the disturbed gut flora. The microbiome—the entirety of the gut flora—can be tested in a stool sample, and based on the results, treated with, e.g., probiotics, acacia fibers, dietary changes, and orthomolecular medicine.

Orthomolecular Therapy

Dr. Linus Pauling defined orthomolecular medicine in 1968 in the journal *Science* as follows: “Orthomolecular medicine is the maintenance of good health and the treatment of diseases by altering the concentration of substances normally present in the body and responsible for health.”

Infusion Therapy

Vitamins or homeopathic medications for weakness or for athletes preparing for competitions.

High-dose aspirin and vitamin C for flu-like infections.
